Very cool Kurtis Kraft. That car was most likely built right around the corner from where I live. There’s a Mercedes repair shop there now. My town, Glendale, has some interesting automobile history. Also near Kurtis’s shop was the car upholstery place owned by the infamous Hillside Strangler.

What are you saying, Kurtis was Armenian? You live in such an amazing environment.

I guess you would know a lot of Frank Kurtis: nearby and Midget-Car specialist. Although slightly different then your average Micro-Car of course.

Awesome picture. So which one of these boys turned into the Hillside Strangler? And was that movie about the actual stranglers (with Dennis Farina) shot in your neighborhood as well?

Kurtis Kraft’s best if you ask me. Don’t know if I’d call it “pretty” though, seems too sinister for that. Frightening if you will. Remember this was 1954 or something.

At first I actually thought it was an insanely customized 50’s Ford F-100.

Actually, he was Croatian, but born in Colorado. Maybe that’s why he picked that address. Colorado Blvd. is kind of “the main drag” around here. I think he got here before all the Armenians. He was an interesting guy, Kurtis. His business only lasted 10 or so years and yet he’s such a legend. He did design maybe the coolest American car of all time, the Davis Divan 3-wheeler.

I hope those kids didn’t become the Hillside Strangler(s). You know, they actually didn’t kill their victims on hillsides. They dumped the bodies on hillsides. I never saw that movie, so I can’t confirm whether the locations are accurate, but I do love me some Dennis Farina. I actually get all my upholstery work done at the shop that was right next door to the Hillside Strangler. The Le Car will be going there soon. I’ve never asked about the murderers, though. I’m not sure if that would bring back bad memories for the old guy who still runs the place. I wonder of he remembers Kurtis. Could make for an interesting interview.
